The 1st Summer School of the Hellenic Society of Mikrobiokosmos was hosted in the Monastery Paou, the congress and cultural centre of the University of Thessaly between 24-28 June 2018. The Summer School was attended by 20 PhD students coming from the Democritus University of Thrace, University of Athens, University of Patras, University of Thessaly, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Harokopio Univeristy of Athens, Agicultural University of Athens etc. Prominent scientists from Greece and abroad presented on different aspects of Microbiology including Food Microbiology, Fungal ecology and Evolution, Aquatic Microbiology, Soil and Environmental Microbiology, Human microbiome, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering. Practicals on bacterial genomic analysis, RNAseq analysis, Metagenomic analysis followed lectures and the students had the chance of hands on experience on omic analysis of data. The industrial prespective was provided by Dr S. Sorensen from Novozymes. We expect that this event would be organized every other year by the Society of Mikrobiokosmos.
